A lot of times the most common question that arises is, “what should be worn to my photoshoot?”
Have no fear, I’m hear to help. I’m going to give you a few tips that will help you make your decision. First and foremost we have to choose what type of photo are we aiming for? Do we want something that looks cohesive or do we want you to be the main focus? Simple enough right? If you aren’t sure, close your eyes and envision what you see when you are hanging this photo or sharing it to social media. Ask yourself, when I look at the photo do I want to see myself in beautiful location with my strikingly awesome outfit? Or is my location not as important and it just happens to be the background for my photos? If you answered yes to the first question then what you want to aim for is opposing colors, otherwise known as complimentary colors. Clear as mud, yes? Drive in a parkway, and park in a driveway.
Complimentary colors is actually an artistic way to draw the attention of the viewer to the intended subject. For example a green-ish color will oppose an orange-ish color, yet it goes well together. Just like an Orange Tree. The overall beauty of the tree is astonishing but we are drawn to the fruit it yields.
If you answered yes to the second question, then you’ll want to plan on colors that are alike to your location. These colors are what we call harmonious. They belong to the background and can blend in easily. For example if you were in the snow, wearing white would really blend in to the background. This is a way to showcase both you and your location.
Fitting is flattering. For your garments try to avoid as much as you can from having a baggy look. Clothes with too much room can make us look inflated despite how comfortable it may feel. It’s a little bit to suffer for the photos but you’ll be glad you did.
Avoid being a billboard and be mindful of your patterns or designs on your clothes. Busy patterns tend to catch the viewers eye and lead them to the pattern versus who is wearing them. If you do happen to wear something with patterns, please make sure the pattern is no bigger than a 25 cent piece.
Functionality is another piece that gets overlooked. Depending on your location, it may require a bit of travel by foot. Make sure you are dressed appropriately for potential steep climbs, slick surfaces or uneven pavement. If your outfit requires shoes that are more for the photo and not a hike, bring a tote bag or backpack with them in it. Once we arrive to the location you can make the swap.
Lastly, if you are still unsure. Take a surf on the internet or visit social media platforms to get your inspiration.
